St. John’s Credit Union Successfully Hosts 80th Annual General Meeting
St. John’s Credit Union proudly hosted its 80th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the SCA Mercy Center in Belize City, bringing together member-owners, staff, volunteers, and invited guests in celebration of another year of growth, service, and cooperative success.
The milestone AGM formed part of the Credit Union’s ongoing 80th Anniversary celebrations, reflecting on eight decades of empowering Belizeans through financial services, community development, and member-focused initiatives.
The event opened with registration and fellowship among members before officially commencing with the AGM proceedings, which included reports from the Board of Directors, Supervisory Committee, Credit Committee, Treasurer, and Management.
Throughout the meeting, members were presented with updates on the Credit Union’s financial performance, operational achievements, membership growth, technological advancements, and community outreach efforts over the past fiscal year. Leadership highlighted the organization’s continued commitment to strengthening member services, improving accessibility, and positioning the Credit Union for long-term sustainability and innovation.
A major highlight of the AGM was the election process for vacancies across the Credit Union’s volunteer leadership bodies, reinforcing the democratic principles that remain central to the cooperative movement.
During the meeting, elections were held to fill four vacancies on the Board of Directors, along with two vacancies each on the Supervisory Committee and Credit Committee.
St. John’s Credit Union proudly welcomed two new members to its Board of Directors, Ms. Robin McKenzie and Mr. Delwitt Samuels, who now join the organization’s leadership team in helping guide the future direction of the Credit Union.
The AGM also saw the re-election of two members to the Credit Committee Mrs. Lisa James and Mr. Wendell Lemoth, reflecting the continued confidence and trust placed in their service and leadership.
On the Supervisory Committee, Ms. Shareth Shepherd was re-elected to continue serving in her role, while Mr. Alrick Flores was elected to join the committee.
The Credit Union also recognizes and express heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Alvan Haynes for his many years of devoted and dedicated service to St. John’s Credit Union, including his longstanding leadership as President of the Board of Directors.
His contribution, commitment, and leadership have played a significant role in the continued growth and development of the organization over the years, and the Credit Union extends sincere gratitude for his service to the membership and the cooperative movement.
The AGM also facilitated active member participation through discussions and governance processes that continue to shape the future direction of the Credit Union.
The event featured moments of celebration, entertainment, and appreciation as the organization reflected on its journey from its humble beginnings in 1946 to becoming one of Belize’s leading financial cooperatives serving more than 30,000 members nationwide.
