St. John’s Credit Union Limited is a financial institution that has been serving the Belizean community for over 64 years. Whilst many challenges came and obstacles set in our path, it was the grace of our ALMIGHTY GOD that kept us and allowed us to stand. As the new decade dawns, we thrive in the fact that the movement is embarking on new projects and threading new ground to make all members secure a path to FINANCIAL FREEDOM!
It was a bright but rainy Saturday afternoon on  29th May, 2010; the Belize Elementary School Auditorium was brightly decorated with various hues of green, yellow and white as our members gathered together to discuss the business and accomplishments of the credit union that were achieved over the 2009-2010 fiscal year. This year the Credit Union declared an asset base just under Thirty-two Million Belize Dollars and with a membership just a little over Twenty-two thousand. The Credit Committee reported, “8.7 Million Belize Dollars were disbursed to 6,908 members during the 2009 -2010 fiscal year and as well we take great pleasure in serving the general membership and we are looking forward to serving you for the year.”  On that same note, The Supervisory Committee took pleasure announcing, “The staff is taking strides in improving internal controls so as better serve the membership. They made mention of the technological advancements that were done, one significant one was that our database system was upgraded from CUMIS to EMORTELLE and as well the credit union is making all efforts to meet every criterion that is approved by WOCCU ‘PEARLS SYSTEM’.”

It was of prominence to note that the BOARD OF DIRECTORS reshuffled their officers and that they were pleased in announcing that first FEMALE President was named which is Mrs. Valerie Jenkins. As the meeting progressed, the BOARD announced that the Basra Street Office in Belize City will be undergoing expansions and as well, the Belmopan Office will be relocating on Constitution Drive in Belmopan City. The membership was further challenged to pay their loans promptly and as well save regularly. Consequently, dividends were declared at 5 ½% and first time in over 20 year plus years, rebate on interest payment were declared at 5 ½% as well.   The manager, Mrs.  loved ones will be able to give them a decent burial; the membership overwhelmingly approved. After which, Mrs. Dawson was surprised by the staff members with a plaque which commemorated her 26th year of service to St. John’s Credit Union Ltd., we thank you and congratulate you ‘Mrs. D’!  The final presentation was done by Mr. Barrymore Smith, the Chair for the Credit Committee, as he presented on the ATM project that the Credit Union has been embarking in partnership with Heritage Bank Ltd, La Inmaculada Credit Union Ltd, Holy Redeemer Credit Union Ltd, St. Martin’s Credit Union Ltd, and Toledo Teacher’s Credit Union Ltd, members were very pleases with this new service that will be made available to them. One member vocalized, “I am very pleased of the growth that the credit union has made and being cognizant of the growing needs of the credit union … keep up the great work.”

St. John’s Credit Union Ltd looks forward to the upcoming year ahead. We will emphatically ensure that the growing needs of the members will be met to the best of our abilities. As the new decade dawns, we are making steps to ensure that St. John’s Credit Union Ltd will be the premier financial institution.
